Suzhou situated in the south of Jiangsu Province, in the middle of the Yangtze Delta. In the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and on the shores of Taihu Lake, bordering on Shanghai in the east, Zhejiang Province in the south , Taihu Lake in the west and the Yangtze River in the north. With a total area of 8,488 sq km and a population of 5.84 million + urban Population: 1.05 million is Suzhou one of the biggest areas around Shanghai.
10 percent is cultivated fields, 30 percent hills, and the rest covered with water, low and smooth terrain with altitude of 4 meters above sea level.

Annual average temperature 15.7°C. Suzhou enjoys the Subtropical monsoon climate, which is considered to be fairly warm and wet, with the four seasons distinct. The average temperature is 16°C, being 2°C in January and 27°C in July. Suzhou has the slightly moderate rainfall, and its frost-free period lasts about 230 days.
The official language is Mandarin. Among the enormous number of local dialects, large groups speak Suzhounese.
The Religions are Buddhism, Taoism, Christianity and Islam.
