Otsuka Pharmaceutical Suzhou Plant Breaks Earth PDF Print E-mail

Japan-based Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. started building a plant in the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park in East China's Suzhou City on April 17, 2008, the 50th pharmaceutical producer that establishes its foothold in the park.

With a total investment of USD 78 million, the new plant is to be engaged in developing and producing pharmaceutical products, especially injections, and will sell the products in the domestic and overseas markets.

Foreign pharmaceutical producers that have set up operations in the park include UK-based GlaxoSmithKline, US Eli Lilly & Co., Japanese Eisai, US Baxter, US Herbalife and US Johnson & Johnson. With a total investment of over USD 1 billion, these producers' Suzhou operations are capable of making a variety kinds of pharmaceutical products, ranging from disposable syringes, capsules, reagents, medical test equipment, computer-controlled X-ray equipment and various kinds of drugs.

China is forecasted to the fifth largest medical market worldwide by 2010. Luring by that, several foreign companies are expanding their business in Mainland China.
