 Night view Suzhou Science Technology Culture and Art Center was inaugurated in a grand ceremony on the evening of Oct. 1, which declared the opening of the largest-scaled and best-equipped and multi-functional scientific and cultural complex in the history of Suzhou.At the inauguration ceremony, the Center was jointly unveiled by Wang Rong, Executive Member of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, Yan Li, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor of Suzhou, Wang Jinhua, Deputy Secretary of Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, Zhou Fuyuan, Chairman of Standing Committee of Municipal People's Congress, and Feng Ruidu, Chairman of Municipal Political Consultative Conference.  Entrance The ceremony was presided over by Xu Guoqiang, Executive Member of Director of Propaganda Department of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, with the attendance of municipal leaders Du Guoling, Qiu Lingmei, Cao Furu, Zhou Weiqiang, Wang Shaodong, Lu Yunquan, Jiang Hao, Zhou Xingguang, Qin Xingyuan, Wu Wenyuan, Fan Zuo, Zhu Yongxin, Zhu Jiansheng, Liu Zhenxia, Cheng Yaocheng, Zhao Wenjuan, Qian Haixing, and Cao Jinghao, etc.
In his speech Wang Rong says that the construction of the Center is an important measure of the municipal Party committee and government to improve the urban functions and build Suzhou into a city of scientific, technological, and cultural renown. The Center will rise as landmark building along with the neighboring Int'l Expo Center and Times Square under construction, and add fascination to the round-lake belt and the new eastern urban district of Suzhou.  day view Wang expressed his hope that the first-class facilities of the grand theater in the Center would be fully utilized, and operation management and publicity be will organized. Mayor Yan Li then announced the municipal citations for those units and individuals without special contribution to the construction of the Center.The investment in the Center amounts to nealy 170 million RMB on a land area of 138,000 square meters. The construction took 2 years and 6 months to complete. The grand theater has the most advanced equipment, an international-standard stage, and a seating capacity of 1,200. The entertainment restaurant can hold 500 people for food and performances of international levels. The Center also has a IMAX movie theater and 7 film projection halls, a 33-000m2 commercial center, and a crescent-shaped open square, with a science and technology exhibition hall and an art gallery under plan.  Inside View The design of the Center was derived from the concept of the master architect Paul Andreu, which combines the charm of "a pearl, a wall, and a garden". The building complex is the most characteristic landmark building of the ancient city of Suzhou, and popularly referred to as "the bird nest".On the evening of the inauguration day, the first music performance was put on at the Grand Theater by Budapest Orchestra, directed and conducted by Ivan Fischer with the participation of Li Yundi, the well-known "piano prince". The municipal leaders and 1,200 audiences attended the concert, which included such famous classical compositions as symphony and piano concerto by Beethoven, Franz Liszt, and Rachmaninov.  Opening concert The programs in the following days at the Center are already tightly scheduled with Budapest Orchestra, Asian Jazz Band, Ma Youyou's concert "the Silk Road", "Carmen" by Aida Gomez from Spain, and the newly produced drama "This Night" by master author Lai Shenchuan, etc., while a number of big-hit movies will be shown at the Center's Movie Town.In the Open square will be held celebration parties during the National Day holidays. Shanghai Madame Tussauds Wax Museum will be exhibited for the first time in Suzhou, and wax images of Cat King, Jack Chen, and Kelly Chen Wai Lam are available to visitors for photo taking.
