A 400-meter-high skyscraper will be erected in Suzhou by the year 2013 as the "No.1 building" of Suzhou. On Oct. 9, SIP Property Development Co., Ltd. and Wharf Holding Ltd., a leading property investment company in Hong Kong, signed a contract of cooperation on the development and construction of the high-rise building. Wang Rong, Executive Member of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee, and Wang Jinhua, Deputy Secretary of CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Secretary of SIP Party Working Committee, attended the signing ceremony and met Mr. Lee Weiren, Senior Vice-chairman of Wharf Holdings, and his entourage. The cooperation project, located on the east of Jinji Lake with a total floorage of 350,000 square meters, will be the tallest building in Suzhou, embracing a 5-star hotel, serviced apartments, and offices. A senior manager of Wharf Holdings told reporters that the company had invited well-known architects to undertake the designing of this super-high building. The construction is expected to commence by 2008 and will be completed by 2013. Wharf Holdings Ltd. has business operations currently in Shanghai, Dalian, and other Chinese cities, and it began investment in Suzhou in 2006, and has gathered a land area of a million square meters in reserve. At the meeting, Wang Rong gave an account of the development situation of China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park and expressed that the skyscraper project in SIP would become a landmark property project in the urban modernization of Suzhou.
