For a Chinese driving license you need to have a residence permit, some pictures for the application forms, your foreign driving license and I needed also the international driving license before ... I am not sure if you still need it. Additionally you also need a health check, not the one you need for the working and residence permit. This one you can make in a hospital. With all this documents you have to go the the driving license place in Suzhou New District. Everybody know this place. I suggest to go very early because there are hundreds of Chinese also want to have one ... You should take a Chinese with you to fill in the application and to make your it easier for you, because there hardly somebody speaks English. Then you have to pass a written driving test. I have heard that they have them meanwhile in English and even German. After you passed all this it takes around 1 week to get the driving license.
