Suzhou Expat - The expatriate portal in China

Hello everybody,

We are planning to spend 6-8 months in Suzhou next year (my husband will be working for his company and I am planning to join him). Actually we are thinking about all the things we have to organize in advance.

One of the most important topics is what we should do with our dog (labrador). We spent 2 weeks in Suzhou last October without him, and we have seen many dogs there. But we are not sure if dogs in Suzhou can have a real good time.

Do you know if we can take our dog with us during the day (restaurants, shopping, parks, recreation areas, lakes, taxi ...) and if we will have problems to find an appartment where dogs are allowed?

We are really not sure if we should find someone here at home who takes care of him during the 6 months. On one side we would like to take him with us - on the other side we think about the long flight (10 hours) and the problems we/he might have in Suzhou ...

I'm Suzhouness, and I have a labrador also. It's not difficult to give good life to your dog here in suzhou. But here something might can be a reference for you
1. in suzhou, a legal dog need a license. it's not difficult to get, will spend around 400RMB/year
2. dogs are not allowed to be in public place. but it depends on where. I'm afraid shopping ,restuarant and taxi are not really ok to take dog with,but if the owner permit then should be no problem. Dog can not be in Park.and some lakes should be no problem to go.
3. you can have dogs in your appartment. hotels, no.
