The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra in Beijing, Suzhou and Shanghai Beijing concert is official German contribution to Olympic cultural program One of the best European orchestras is visiting China for three concerts: The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra with Chief Conductor Paavo Järvi. The first symphony concert in the Beijing National Grand Theatre on May 23, 7.30 p.m., is the official German contribution to the Olympic cultural program and sponsored by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is part of an event series called „Germany and China – Moving Ahead Together“. The orchestra is performing the Symphonies 2 and 4 of Johannes Brahms. May 26th, 7.30 p.m., the Frankfurt Radio Symphony plays Gustav Mahler’s 9th Symphony in the Suzhou Grand Theatre and one day later, May 27, 7.30 p.m., the Brahms‘ Symphonies 3 and 4 in the Shanghai Concert Hall. The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra The Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra is one of the most innovative and flexible ensembles of its kind in Germany. With an extraordinarily broad repertoire, an impressive number of CDs, and a breath-taking range of concerts each year, the orchestra of the German Public Radio of Hessen has built up an outstanding international reputation since its foundation more than 75 years ago. Conductors like Dean Dixon, Eliahu Inbal, Dmitri Kitaenko, Hugh Wolff and Paavo Järvi, the Chief Conductor since 2006 have established and carried on the orchestra's truly international reputation in the last decades. Paavo Järvi Paavo Järvi has been the Chief Conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2006. The double Grammy award-winning conductor is one of the most sought after conductors of his generation. Born in Tallinn, Paavo Järvi studied percussion and conducting, before moving to the USA in 1980. In 2001 he became Chief Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Paavo Järvi additionally holds the posts of Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Artistic Adviser to the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, Paavo Järvi will take over as the Musical Director of the Orchestre de Paris. He also regularly works with many major orchestras in America, Europe and Japan, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic or the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
